Vicky Roy
Vicky Roy is a documentary photographer based in New Delhi, known for images that find beauty and dignity in lives the world tends to overlook. He was handed a camera at seventeen, and turned his lens on the world he had grown up in. That instinct, to look closely at the people others walk past, has shaped everything he has made since.
His work has been exhibited from the Kochi-Muziris Biennale to FotoFest in Houston and the Asia Society Texas Center, and he has been recognized on Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 and with an MIT Media Lab Fellowship. In 2009 he was chosen to document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center, focusing not on the tower but on the ironworkers and crews who raised it. Whether on the streets of Delhi or the rebuilt skyline of New York, Roy's photographs are portraits of resilience.
