Fragmented Appearances - IV
Gallery Code:
VT01
22" x 33" Collage Wood & Canvas on HDWR Board
"Fragmented Appearance II" and "Fragmented Appearance IV" by Vysali Kalidindi are part of her powerful series Reflections of Her, which explores the layered nature of womanhood. Created using collage, canvas board, and reflective materials, these portraits represent the inner and outer complexities of female identity. The use of fragments evokes self-reflection and societal judgment, while the collage technique captures how identity is often pieced together under cultural and social pressure.
Inspired by Plato’s Simile of the Cave, Vysali questions whether we ever truly see women as they are or only through the lens of expectation and tradition. In these two works, faces are split between realism and abstraction, suggesting the divide between perception and truth. The figures hold a steady presence, both elegant and introspective, embodying strength, vulnerability, and quiet defiance. Through this series, Vysali invites viewers to examine not only how women are viewed but also how they come to view themselves.
